Earlier this month, Managing Director Chris Illsley designed and commissioned a fantastic frame displaying a small selection of our Diamond Jubilee commemorative 'coins' and medals which was sent to Her Majesty as a gift of congratulations.

Mr Illsley had a pleasant surprise this morning when opening his post as he had received a letter of thanks from the Lady-in-Waiting on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen in regards to the gift and sentiments that were sent.

Every year, Running Imp has a selected charity in which money is raised from the sales of our standard stock medals. In 2011, the chosen charity was the British Heart Foundation, and we are pleased to announce that we raised a total of £8,500 throughout the year!

The money we have raised will help fund pioneering new research and the exceptional care and support the British Heart Foundation provides for those battling with heart disease.

To commemorate the accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth 60 years ago today, Managing Director of Running Imp Chris Illsley has designed and commissioned this fantastic framed display.

Only 2 have been created, one of which will be sent to Her Majesty as a gift to show a small selection of our exclusively designed Diamond Jubilee 'coins' and medals. The other will take pride and place in our Jubilee House Reception along with the other Diamond Jubilee memorabilia we have on show.

The text on the engraved plate reads:
Presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II In Her Diamond Jubilee Year.
To Commemorate The 60th Anniversary of her Accession to the Throne.
6th February 2012
From Running Imp.

On this day 60 years ago, 25 year old Princess Elizabeth was notified of the death of her father, King George VI. She was on vacation in Kenya whilst her father was thought to be recovering from illness in Sandringham, but unfortunately the illness got the better of him and passed away in his sleep at the age of 56.

This meant Princess Elizabeth automatically became Queen of England, marking February 6th 1952 her accession to the throne along with the sadness of being the day of her fathers death.

The Queen was rushed to the airport and returned to London the following day to witness the nation mourning, with flags at half-mast and many places closed for business.

A special pose with The Queen and Prince Philip to mark accession day.

60 years on, the nation is preparing to celebrate this momentous occasion of the Diamond Jubilee. The Queen is now the second longest serving British Monarch in history, with Queen Victoria surpassing her 60 years in charge in 1887.

Many of you will remember the colourful street parties during the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the Golden Jubilee in 2002. Now 10 years on, every school, village, town and city across the United Kingdom will be celebrating The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Walk into our reception at Jubilee House and you'll be greeted by the Queen (well, a life-size cardboard cut-out of the Queen anyway). Her Majesty unveiled the table display full of a selection of our Diamond Jubilee and Union Jack products that we have for sale.

We would obviously have preferred the real Queen to have paid a visit, but we're happy with our cardboard cut-out for the time being.

The 16th Annual Lincoln 10K Road Race will be taking place on Sunday 25th March, and Running Imp are proud to be a part of the action yet again.

The first City of Lincoln 10k Road Race took place in 1997 and attracted 200 runners. Since then, the race has grown in both size and presence amongst sporting event calendars. In 2011 the maximum entry level of 5,500 runners was reached.

Competitors are now global in origin, coming from all walks of life and compete internationally, nationally, regionally and for County and Club level. Thousands of fun runners also take part hoping to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity.

As part of the 10K Roadrace there is also the GetMummyFit 3km Buggy Push Race, Running Imp 3km Primary School Race and the Lincoln College 4.05km Secondary School Race. These will be taking place on Saturday 24th March.

Not only is the 10k Road Race a great event when it comes to motivating people to get active and do more exercise, it also brings the local communities together.

To download the entry forms for these events, go to our Downloads page. For any more information on the Lincoln 10K, please visit www.lincoln10k.co.uk.

Since the first race was held in 1997, the Lincoln 10k Road Race has been attracting runners from all over the country and, more recently, from all over the globe.

This Olympic year marks the 16th anniversary of the event that sees competitors racing past the city’s historic landmarks, finishing in the castle grounds.

This year’s main event will take place on Sunday, March 25.

Previously a half marathon, the distance of the race was reduced to 10k (six and a quarter miles) and around 200 runners took part in its first year, a figure that has increased every year since.

“2011 was by far the most popular year, as we were oversubscribed and had to turn some people away. The maximum number of people we can safely have taking part is 5,500 – this was the figure for last year and we’re expecting the same this year,” said Keith Taylor, senior sports development officer at the City of Lincoln Council, organisers of the event.
